The First Thanksgiving (of Christians in the U.S.)

The First Thanksgiving in the New (to Europeans) World - a preemptive post, before that Pilgrim "fake news" tale about the 1621 event - 80 years later - is republished by the media. Prologue: Cabeza de Vaca, who lived from about 1490 to around 1557, was the first European to explore North America an...

Re: Trump Administration To End Obamacare Subsidies For The Poor

IF the payments are in fact stopped — many States' Attorney Generals are filing suit to continue Judge Collier's Order/Stay until the Appeal is over, probably at the Supreme Court — the results will be 1) fewer lower income people with health insurance, and 2) higher insurance premiums for everyone ...

Re: Trump Administration To End Obamacare Subsidies For The Poor

Historical note - when it began. Excerpt from February 2, 2013 Letter from the Conservative Action Project: ——— Blueprint to Defunding Obamacare Obamacare’s funding mechanisms are as complicated as the law itself, but they can be stopped through the appropriation process, which includes the upcoming...

Re: Trump Administration To End Obamacare Subsidies For The Poor

I note the subsidies cut is grounded in this Decision, which is still under Appeal. The House of Representatives sued HHS a couple years ago, claiming that Congress had not funded the subsidies. Judge Collier agreed with the House, but Stayed the cut. —— The Court will grant summary judgment to the ...

That I can understand - Pelosi epitomizes the political chicanery and powermongering that fatally infects both Parties.

Re: Proposed Tax Reform - Estate "Death" Tax

Ummmm... huh? The guy with the big estate pays a ton of taxes. And not at anyone's expense. Yes, some of the big estates (above $5,340,000) paid a lot of taxes; some paid nothing; and those that did pay, paid different real percentages, as compared to "bracket" amount. I linked how many, and how mu...

Re: Proposed Tax Reform - Estate "Death" Tax

Not at all.

Screwing someone over means an intentional action to cheat someone.

When one person is taxed lower (percent of wealth) and another is taxed higher, the lower taxed person is not intentionally cheating the other. (S)he is simply benefiting at the other's expense.

Re: the bully tweeter.

Why couldn't he have tweeted about increasing competition in the insurance industry?! Allowing people to buy insurance across state lines is a huge step in the right direction. I agree; and allowing purchases across state lines has been a part of every health care proposal since the Truman administ...

Re: Trump Administration To End Obamacare Subsidies For The Poor

The subsidies were paid from the U.S. Treasury, with the dollars in the Treasury having come from U.S. taxpayers, and from foreign and domestic investors why buy U.S. Debt. The phrase "not funded by" only reflects that the Trump administration has not found a specific line item expenditure authoriza...

Re: HOW MANY MORE TIMES? LAS VEGAS MASSACRE

I wonder whether the founders would agree with later SCOTUS decisions to limit, regulate that right. You don't have to wonder, as the SCOTUS decisions, e.g. Heller, quote extensively from the Founders and Framers - and from the laws in the Colonies that restricted the use and carrying of personal w...

The issue is not screwing others over - that has zilch to do with the equitable sharing of the cost of funding the infrastructure across America that makes those beach properties income-producing over time. Beach replenishment, subsidized flood insurance, mortgage payments writeoffs of income, the A...

Re: HOW MANY MORE TIMES? LAS VEGAS MASSACRE

So Mike, if you were asked, would you consider yourself opposed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic control? Speed limits, seat belts, turning signals, air bags, traffic lanes, drivers licenses, etc.? Gun control laws and regulations are no different - both reduce (but don't eliminate) fatalities an...
